Journalists on the receiving end of President Donald Trump’s finger-pointing at Thursday’s press conference could hardly contain their offended egos.

After the president blasted the media and, in particular, the “anger and hatred” on CNN, the network’s Jake Tapper proved him right.

Tapper spewed plenty of the anger and hatred Trump pointed out as he attacked the president.

“It was unhinged. It was wild,” Tapper said of the presser.

Chris Wallace, on the other hand, saw a president who was “in charge” and not the “unhinged” figure Tapper and some in the press described.

“This was a president saying, ‘I’m in charge. I know what I’m doing. I’m not going to bend to Washington. Washington’s going to have to get used to me,’” Wallace told Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly on “The O’Reilly Factor” Thursday.

“Overall, I thought that he was in control,” Wallace said. “And he seized control of the narrative and said, ‘Chaos? Heck no. It’s running like a [fine]-tuned machine.”

Wallace noted that Trump’s results in delivering on his promises are what is going to matter to the American people, not one news conference or the media’s reaction to it.

“If he improves the economy, if he gets tax reform through, if he gets Obamacare repealed and an effective [replacement] through, then it’s not going to matter,” Wallace said. “And conversely, if he doesn’t get that stuff through and people’s lives don’t change, then he could have all the positive press in the world and it isn’t going to matter.”
